Chapter 36

Police Station

The police chief walked in, immaculate as always, and said, “Well, what do we have here?” Cole listed the information they had, the arrest they had made, and where the body was located. “Any idea who the woman was?” he asked his assistant.

“Several of the people we got from the warehouse have said Beatrice Purvis,” he replied.

The police chief asked Jeremy, “The kids?”

“They’re okay, but we’ll need help locating their families.”

“Of course. I’ll send some officers over,” said the police chief.

They continued discussing how they might get the kids home when a delivery boy came into the station stating, “Note for Jeremy Tilden.”

Jeremy took the note, opened it, and read. He suddenly started laughing and folded the paper up before saying, “Emma has an idea that could help identify the kids in a faster manner. She would like to use Jake to take pictures of them and put their names on them to make the identification easier. She recommends setting this up for early afternoon tomorrow when the kids are expected to be awake”

“Jake Cooper is our forensic photographer,” reminded the police chief’s assistant Jim. “He’s very good at his job.”

“Yes, he’s also a team member of Emma’s and lives at their boarding house,” commented Jeremy.

“Interesting,” said the police chief, thinking of the young man who kept to himself. He nodded decisively and said, “That is a good idea. Jim, send a note over to Jake to work with Jeremy on the pictures.” Jim was taking notes and nodded.
